The province of Champagne in northeast France gives its name to the world’s most renowned sparkling wine, produced using traditional methods from three dominant grape varieties — Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. These are typically blended to form a cuvée which then undergoes secondary fermentation inside the bottle. Individual champagne houses — names such as Gosset, Taittinger, Moët & Chandon — will select the grapes for the blend in order to produce a wine in accordance with the unique house style.
