Alentejano

Alentejo is a large wine region covering much of Portugal’s southern half, best known for producing rich and powerful red wines.  The hot, dry conditions suit native Portuguese grapes such as Trincadeira, though French varieties such as Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Alicante Bouschet also perform very well in this region. Similarly, Alentejo white wines may use indigenous varieties such as Arinto and Síria in addition to more familiar international varieties like Viognier.
