Spain

Winemaking in Spain originated over five thousand years ago and was subsequently developed under the influence of the ancient Phoenicians, Carthaginians and Romans. Nowadays Spain’s vast vineyards make it the world’s most widely planted wine-producing country. Tempranillo is the best-known Spanish grape for producing red wines and is the dominant variety in wines from famous Rioja region. Spain also produces white wines using distinctive native varieties like Albariño and Verdejo, whilst the Jerez de la Frontera region is the home of sherry.
