South Australia

South Australia is home to some of the country’s oldest and best-known wine-producing regions, including the famous Barossa Valley northeast of Adelaide.  Barossa vineyards are strongly associated with the Shiraz grape, and the hot, dry conditions yield some of the world’s most powerful expressions of this variety, its big, fruity flavours providing an ideal match for barbecued meats.  The region is also known for its Cabernet Sauvignon and ‘GSM’ blends of Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro (also known as Mourvèdre and Monastrell), as well as white varieties such as Sémillon and Viognier.
