Germany

Germany is best known for its white wines, especially those produced from the Riesling grape. The cooler climate and steep slopes of the Mosel Valley bring out the best in this variety, producing elegant and aromatic wines with concentrated fruit flavours and refreshing acidity. German Riesling can vary from dry (‘Trocken’) to the generally sweeter styles of late harvest Auslese. Maximin Grünhaus and Mönchhof are two of the region’s leading producers.
