Burgundy
Located in central eastern France near the city of Dijon, the Burgundy region has over 100 different appellations, more than any other region in France. Here terroir is of central importance, yielding an astonishing variety of expressions of the two classic grapes of the region — Pinot Noir for reds and Chardonnay for whites. The latter range from the crisper, unoaked styles of Chablis to rich, buttery Meursault. The region is also known for Crémant de Bourgogne, a traditionally produced sparkling wine that can rival those of Champagne.
