Languedoc Roussillon
Stretching from the Spanish border and the Pyrenees in the west to the Rhone valley in the east, Languedoc-Roussillon in Southern France is the world’s largest wine producing region. The Mediterranean climate produces high yields and suits the growth of a wide range of grapes – red wines from the region tend to be full-bodied and fruity blends of varieties such as Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Carignan and Cinsault; white varieties include Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Rousanne, Marsanne, Grenache Blanc and Piquepoul – the latter responsible for the well-known zesty regional white Picpoul de Pinet, an ideal match for seafood.
